It means a designer can come at a time that suits you rather than a time that suits a route. It means that if a bracket needs moving half an inch after the install, somebody comes back that week. And it means a second visit, to look at one more room after you have lived with the first, is not a scheduling problem.

A postwar city, and why that matters at the window

Fairlawn is a young municipality by Ohio standards. It was incorporated as Fairlawn Village in 1960 and became a city in 1970, once its population passed 6,200 — so the bulk of what is here was built for a car, not for a horse.

That is a genuinely different measuring job from the century stock a few minutes east in Akron. Post-1960 openings are usually square, usually a standard size, and usually set in frames with modest depth and a header behind the drywall you can actually fix to. Which means two things: an inside mount is much more often the right answer, and the constraint moves from “will it fit” to “how much light comes past the edges”.

What a custom shade actually changes here

The same three things, wherever the house is. It fits the opening you have rather than the nearest stocked width, which is what decides how much light comes past the edges. The opacity is chosen against the orientation of the room rather than off a chart — a west-facing room and a north-facing one want different cloth.
